Silvia Mercé Lara

Product and UX designer with six years' experience in B2B SaaS, healthcare and sustainability. I work closely with product, engineering and stakeholders, from the first alignment meeting to launch, making sure every feature is one users understand, adopt and use with ease, even in complex, regulated sectors.

Selected work

Centene Corporation · 2022–24 · Healthcare · Product Designer

TruCare Cloud

The care management platform of Centene, a US health insurer operating in every state. Care managers use it to coordinate care for Medicare and Medicaid patients. I owned the design of three products: patient outreach, documentation audit and the quick-actions menu (FAB).

Quick-actions menu (FAB)

Problem

The FAB is a floating button with quick actions, available on any TruCare Cloud screen that needs it. With so many products on the platform, every team wanted its own actions in it.

Key decision

I prioritised by use: only the actions needed from anywhere on the platform made it in.

Patient outreach

Problem

During every contact, by phone from a computer or in person with a tablet, the care manager fills in a form: they verify the patient's identity and consent, assess their condition and whether they still meet their plan's requirements, update their medication and arrange the services they need (a wheelchair, a ramp at home, meal delivery or home care). For any of these tasks, they had to leave the form and reopen the patient's record.

Key decision

Assessments, medication and services open from inside the form, and the user returns to it when done. Failed contact attempts and pending tasks go to the team's worklist or to the assigned care manager's own list, and the contact is rescheduled.

Outcome

84%fewer missed patient contacts
2 h/dayless on outreach tasks
+42.3%overall compliance on outreach tasks

Earthster · 2024–25 · Life cycle assessment · UX Designer

Earthster

A life cycle assessment (LCA) platform: it calculates a product's environmental impact across every phase, from production to recycling, and lets you compare it with other products.

Scenario simulator

Problem

Engineers and analysts wanted to reduce a product's negative impacts and increase its positive ones. They needed to see how the impact changed when they altered any of its phases (production, distribution, use or recycling), but had no simple way to create alternative scenarios for their products' life cycles.

Key decision

I designed a scenario simulator: you start from an existing life cycle, modify its phases and save the result as a new cycle. I also designed the cycle comparison tool shown in the video.

Outcome

Engineers and analysts can create alternative scenarios and compare them side by side.

EPD MVP

Problem

More and more companies require an EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) certification from their suppliers, and clients didn't know how to prepare the documentation to obtain it.

Key decision

I proposed an MVP that captured the key information (required fields) needed for EPD certification. Information specific to each product was left in optional fields, so users helped us recognise their patterns and later show them preset fields.

Outcome

The MVP shipped in six weeks and proved a very valuable first step: it helped us complete the map of EPD certification requirements. It kept the clients who needed it, set Earthster apart from competitors and brought in new companies.

Wireframe sketches

  • Tagging system to make comparisons easier.

  • DiscardedTemplates: discarded because covering every product type was too complex.

  • Cycle description and scope.

Freelance client project · 2025–26 · EU product compliance · UX Designer

GPSR Gate

A platform where suppliers upload their products to check that they comply with EU product safety regulations (GPSR) before they go on sale.

Problem

Suppliers checked each product using Excel templates and scattered documentation, unsure what was required. A missing document could block a product's entry to the market, delay its sale or lead to a fine.

Key decision

Each product category has its own rules, although some categories share rules with others. So the platform first suggests each product's category, which the supplier can change, and then shows only the requirements and documents still missing. With the development team, I defined how categories and rules relate.

Outcome

The platform is now in use and handles the review for suppliers. Faced with so many requirements, they now know what's missing and how to fix it, because the platform tells them.

Tools: Claude to structure the requirements, Figma for the main flows, Claude Design for the wireframes, Figma Make and Figma for the prototype, and the test environment to validate it.

Grupo Idea · 2021–22 · Scientific research · UX/UI Designer

Wildlife telemetry

A platform for biologists and ornithologists to track birds in real time, using devices with GPS, a speedometer, an accelerometer and vital-sign sensors.

Problem

Researchers received raw data from the devices, with no platform to organise it. They needed to know where each bird was, whether it was still alive, what condition it was in and how it migrated.

Key decision

I designed the platform from scratch: a live map with defined zones (geofences) and configurable alerts for when a bird enters or leaves them, alerts when its vital signs cross a threshold, and permissions to share data with other researchers. There was research, prototyping and user testing at every stage.

Outcome

The platform has since expanded to eight more countries and other species, and has been sold to zoos in Spain.
